Dresses that Impress: Introducing Towson’s Historic Clothing Collection
Begun under the auspices of Georgia Baker, Professor of Theatre Arts at Towson University from 1966-2009, the Historic Clothing Collection contains articles of clothing for men, women, and children that date back to the early- to mid-1800s. The collection numbers in excess of 1,000 items and is housed in the Department of Theatre Arts Costume Shop in the Towson University Center for the Arts building. In fall 2011 Cheryl Partridge, former Costume Shop Manager who had been working with the collection since the 1970s, began efforts to raise awareness about this hidden collection and its potential use for research. This digital collection is a result of a partnership begun in 2012 between the Theatre Arts Department and the Towson University Special Collections and Archives to provide online access to the collection.

As new garments are added, the site will be updated. Please keep checking back!
