It's Lit: Consent in YA Literature

It’s Lit: Consent in YA Literature
Friday, April 5th
12:00pm – 1:00pm
Cook Library, RM507

YA publishing is growing braver and more inclusive regarding gender, sexual orientation, and portrayals of consent. Miriam DesHarnais, Research and Instruction Librarian, will talk about the history of sex and consent in books for young adults and share new titles and trends to check out, including swoony romances featuring affirmative consent, and books like Exit, Pursued by Bear, which re-imagine survivorship in empowering ways. The first 20 registrants in attendance will get to pick a free book on the theme from our “It’s Lit” giveaways cart. Light refreshments will be provided.

This project was made possible by a grant from Maryland Humanities, through support from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Any views, findings, conclusions, or recommendations expressed in this program do not necessarily represent those of the National Endowment for the Humanities or Maryland Humanities.
